Challenge
I was given the opportunity to create the visual identity for an annual Krump dance event here in Kansas City. Working with one of the leaders of the Krump movement in Kansas City and Red Bull Stance, our goal was to capture the raw energy and culture of the dance style while ensuring event information remained clear and easy to read. The audience included longtime dancers, innovators within the scene, and fans connected to street culture.
Approach
I focused on balancing intensity with structure. The concept centered on “raw energy with control,” using bold typography, layered textures, and high-contrast color choices to reflect the physicality and emotion of Krump without sacrificing clarity or hierarchy.
Solution
In the end we were to able to capture the rambunctious identity and bold nature of the Krump Dance style. The final system delivers a high-impact event identity that feels loud, expressive, and grounded. Clear typographic hierarchy ensures event details are instantly readable, while the visual language leaves room for future expansion into motion graphics to further amplify the energy and chaotic rhythm of the culture.
