Challenge

Allegedly, not being from Earth and having a space encounter at a young age, I decided to retell that story for Yeat’s breakout album 2 Alive, where he bursted onto the music scene and became widely recognized for his unique sound and vision.

Approach

After diving deep into 70s psychedelic album artwork, I blended the funky typography and astral illustration style with a cinematic, modern approach. Listening to the album while designing, it felt natural to incorporate UFOs and a grungy, bold monotype treatment to fully capture Yeat’s aesthetic. The result is a mix of retro psychedelia and contemporary edge that mirrors the energy and otherworldly vibe perfect for 2 Alive.

Process

I used After Effects’ 3D Camera to create a seamless looping animation of the album cover, designed for platforms like Spotify where listeners can engage with the artwork as the music plays. To expand the release beyond streaming, I extended the visual system into large-scale NYC billboard mockups, exploring how the album could live in both digital and physical spaces.
